It looks like we are in for quite a bit of rain this week. Here are a few tips to help prepare for the downpours and to help prevent flooding:
2. Clean your eaves.
Again, any leaves or debris that are blocking your eaves and downspouts will prevent them from being able to function properly.
3. Check your downspouts.
Be sure that your downspouts are directing water at least 1.8 metres (6 feet) away from your home.
4. Be sure your sump pump is working properly.
Remember, your sump pump requires an energy source to operate. If you lose power, and you don't have a back up power source for your sump pump, do not flush your toilet or use any of your drains. If your sump pump is not working or is working inefficiently (or you are not sure), one of our technicians can come out to assess, repair or replace it for you.
5. Ensure your perimeter drains are clear.
If there are any blockages in your perimeter drains, they will not be able to drain this much storm water away efficiently. This is how most homes end up flooding during a storm. If you are not sure that your perimeter drain is clear and functioning properly, give us a call. One of our technicians will come out with a camera to assess them for you.
