Rolls Repurposed- DIY Elf and Reindeer
Looking to craft something unique and fun this Christmas season without an extensive budget? If so, repurposing toilet paper rolls into holiday decorations is a thrifty option. With minimal supplies, you and your kids can create a variety of festive art pieces, fit for any space in your home.
Santa’s Reindeer
What you need:
- Blank toilet paper roll (brown)
- Pipe cleaner (brown/gold)
- Pom-pom (red)
- Googley-eyes
- Glitter (gold)
- Scissors
- Tape
- Glue
What to do:
- Cut one pipe cleaner in half, and then continue cutting it to achieve the desired length for the antlers. Cut a few small pieces to attach to the main stem of each antler. Use tape to secure the pipe cleaners inside of the toilet paper roll.
- Glue the google-eyes and red pom-pom onto the face of the reindeer. Put glue around the circumference of the roll to decorate it with glitter. This step is optional but it makes the overall product appear more complete.
Elf
What you need:
- Blank toilet paper roll (brown)
- Construction paper (green, yellow, red, and black)
- Googley-eyes
- Scissors
- Marker (black)
- Glue
- What to do:
- Cut a strip of green paper for the elf’s suit, a smaller strip of black paper for the belt, and a square of yellow paper as the buckle. Fold the yellow square in half and cut out a smaller square. This will represent the belt buckle. Glue on the pieces in this order. Next, cut a small strip of red paper in a triangular pattern for the suit’s collar. Glue this piece on as well.
- Fold another piece of green paper in the shape of a cone. Cut the cone to represent the elf’s hat. Place the hat on top of the roll and secure it with tape. Add a smaller strip of yellow paper to complete the hat.
- Glue on the google-eyes and draw a smile with the black marker.
Rolls-repurposed crafts are completely customizable and can be made as simple, or as intricate as desired. This reindeer and elf duo will make the perfect addition to your home for the holidays.
